The story of the banana boxes?
In 2020, at the start of corona crisis, hundreds of banana boxes found their way from Amstelveen in the Netherlands to Banjul, thanks to the donations of friends and the hard work of volunteers at the foundation Gambia for You. They make sure all boxes are stored in containers and picked up by the right people.
The start of this foundation would not have been possible if Balla, a Gambian tennis coach in the Netherlands, would not have told me (Martine) about the trainers in the Gambia.
Tennis matches at DVH were the start of this great team work.
After four years it was time to start the foundation. The team in the Gambia is still the same: the tennis coaches Musa & Lamin and Ebrima. They distribute within the tennis & football communities and among the families in need.
Once all donations are packed in the banana boxes, they are ready to be sent.
The boxes, picked up by Gambia for You travelled all the way to Banjul. At the distribution center we have Ebrima and Musa collecting them.
It is a joy to see how the donations find new owners, some even delivered personally.
The Gambian “tennis family” never forgets to show the receipt of boxes, tennis bags and attributes.
